Dave Trautman is a Leadership and Professional Learning Specialist at the University of San Diego's Institute for Entrepreneurship in Education. In this role, he supports schools and districts seeking to integrate technology with a focus on effective pedagogy. This work ranges from district and site-level visioning to classroom-level instructional coaching. He also supports leaders and teams as a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.
Dave is passionate about educational equity and creating opportunities for all children to thrive, both at school and in the world of work. He believes that strengths-based development, enhancing both our self-image and self-awareness, is one avenue to help people understand their unique value. This can result in not just increased happiness, but also a greater sense of agency. This work is most effective in schools when leaders and teachers model the strengths-based culture they want to create.
Dave began his career as a kindergarten and 2nd grade teacher in San Jose through Teach For America. He later taught 2nd and 3rd grade in Oakland, CA. In addition to his teaching roles, he worked in various capacities at the school and district level to support teachers with data analysis and classroom technology. Prior to joining IEE, Dave worked as the Assistant Director of an independent public charter school in Chula Vista, CA.
